HVAC Replacement? Consider a Ductless Mini Split

Ductless-WomanIt’s inevitable. Eventually, your existing HVAC system is going to give out on you. Whether you are replacing an old HVAC system that can no longer keep up, or if you need to invest in a brand new system for a brand new home, it is always in your best interest to weigh all of your options very carefully. There is no need to stick with what you’ve always known, and you may do yourself a disservice by deciding on the first type of system you research.

Today, we are going to talk about an HVAC system that has really grown in popularity recently. This is the ductless mini split. With a ductless mini split system, you can enjoy many benefits unique to this particular design. So read on, and be sure to contact our Garner, NC HVAC experts if you have any questions about this unique type of system. We have the answers that you need to determine if going ductless is right for you.

How Ductless Heating and Cooling Works

Yes, you read that right: heating and cooling. A ductless mini split is a heat pump, after all, albeit one without air ducts. That is what allows it to function as both a heating and air conditioning system. By reversing its refrigerant flow, is able to absorb heat from the air outside in the winter, compress that refrigerant, and use its thermal energy to warm an interior space.

Now, ductless mini splits don’t use ducts, obviously. So how do they distribute air throughout a house? Well, they use wall-mounted blowers in order to handle that. Essentially, each of these blowers acts as a mini air handler. Each is controlled independently of the others, with its own thermostat.

The indoor and outdoor components are connected via a simple conduit, containing power, refrigerant, and any necessary drainage lines. A small hole, typically around 3″ in diameter, is enough to allow this conduit to pass through the home envelope. This type of installation is ideal for existing homes that do not have ductwork installed yet.

Benefits of Ductless Mini Splits

In addition to the convenience of their installation, ductless mini splits have many other benefits to offer. They are very efficient, not only in heating mode due to their utilization of the heat transfer process, but also thanks to the fact that they do not use ductwork. That means that there is no risk of wasted energy via air leaks.

Plus, zone control is an inherent part of this type of system. You don’t have to maintain one set temperature throughout the entire house, which means that you don’t have to listen to the family bickering about thermostat adjustments. People are comfortable at different temperatures, and ductless mini splits ensure that every in the household is living in the level of comfort that they deserve.

Just remember that you are only going to enjoy the full benefits of your ductless mini split system if you schedule professional HVAC services. That’s where our pros come in.
