Questions to Ask Yourself When Looking for a Heating and Cooling Company

When you are weighing your options for hiring someone to handle repairs, new installation, maintenance, or any other important HVAC work for your home comfort, the first question you should ask is: “Is this person my brother in-law?” Perhaps your brother in-law is actually an HVAC professional (or maybe you don’t have a brother in-law), but chances are strong that you have better options out there from experienced heating and cooling technicians.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to narrow down your HVAC company options to the most trustworthy ones:

  • “How long have they been in business?” Although longevity isn’t necessarily an indicator of quality, it usually indicates a company that has earned the trust of the community, knows how to conduct business, and has the experience necessary to perform quality work on every job. Look for a company with at least 10 years of work under its belt.
  • “Does the company have special qualifications and certifications?” A professional HVAC contractor will belong to a number of important organizations, such as the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) and the RSES HVAC Training Authority. Most importantly, see that the company is licensed by the North Carolina state board of examiners and has NATE-certified technicians on staff.
  • “Will the company supply customer references?” When it comes to finding out if a company really can deliver what it claims, there is no better source than the customers who came before you. A company confident of its record of satisfied client will have no problem providing you with references.
  • “Is this person my brother in-law?” Well, if he runs an HVAC company that meets the above qualifications….
